Le Monde Francophone

Bienvenue! In the Davitt College French Department, language learning is treated as a passport to the wider francophone world. From their very first week in first year, students are immersed in an active, supportive environment designed to build immediate confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. We don't just focus on vocabulary lists; we prioritize spontaneous expression, interactive group projects, and real-world communication that prepares our students for global citizenship.

Beyond the Classroom

At Davitt College, language learning extends far past the classroom walls. Our students regularly engage with French culture, cinema, modern technology, and national events to build true global communication skills.

Cultural Expeditions & Competitions

We bring the Francophone world to life through local and international links. From achieving national success in the Association of French Language Teachers quiz to immersive cinema trips at the Linenhall Arts Centre and senior study tours to the European Parliament in Brussels, our students experience culture in action.

The French Club & Whole-School Events

Language is celebrated across our entire community. Our student-led lunchtime French Club features interactive games and traditional French breakfasts. School-wide highlights include celebrating global Francophonie Day and our massive annual European Day of Languages poster exhibition.

Digital Innovation & Learner Autonomy

We leverage modern technology to gamify learning and build independent study habits. Using platforms like Quizlet, students take ownership of their vocabulary goals outside class, celebrated through our hotly contested "Quizlet Students of the Month" awards.
