Gaeilge i gCroí ár Scoile
What does Davitt College mean to our staff? To celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge, students Abigail Lane, Surnaí Ní Cheallaigh, and Aisling Forkan stepped behind the camera to interview members of our school community.
From teachers and our principal to our dedicated ancillary staff, we asked a simple question: Cad iad na rudaí is fearr faoi gCholáiste Dhíbhéid? (What are the best things about Davitt College?).
This project captures the passion, shared values, and the unique spirit that makes our school a special place to work and learn. We hope you enjoy these insights into the heart of our community.
Beyond the Classroom
At Davitt College, the Irish language extends far beyond the textbook. We offer a diverse range of extracurricular activities designed to bring Gaeilge to life, allowing students of every ability to use the language in real-world contexts and find their own voice.
The Gaeltacht Experience
Our annual trip to the Gaeltacht provides an immersive environment where students put their language skills into practice within a native-speaking community. It is a journey that takes students from classroom learners to confident, active users of the language.
Seachtain na Gaeilge
Each year, we host a vibrant week-long celebration filled with pop-up events, music sessions, and poster competitions. These events, supported by groups like Conradh na Gaeilge, help students "give life to the Irish language" outside formal lessons.
Public Speaking & Debate
We empower our students to find their voice through public speaking and formal debate competitions. This not only builds confidence but allows students to synthesize information, develop arguments, and interact with the broader Irish-speaking community in a meaningful way.
